Predictions
We think Final Fantasy VII Revelation ends at the North Crater with Holy against Meteor but with Zack and Cloud's worlds brought together, and that its Sephiroth DLC retells Ever Crisis's First Soldier story with young Sephiroth playable.
We think Final Fantasy VII Revelation keeps the shape of the 1997 ending, the North Crater and Holy against Meteor, while using the remake's other worlds to give Zack and Cloud a scene together, and that its two story DLCs look back to the past rather than forward, starting with young Sephiroth. The reveal trailer's last line, "At last, the promise is fulfilled. The journey ends here", is the promise these predictions are about.
These are Vi.ki's own predictions and opinions, not reported facts. Each one says what we base it on and when it can be checked. We will mark each one right or wrong when it resolves.
How does Final Fantasy VII Revelation end?
We think Revelation's final battle is against Sephiroth at the North Crater, Holy is cast against Meteor as in 1997, and the ending brings the trilogy's separate worlds together so that Zack and Cloud share at least one scene in the finale.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Naoki Hamaguchi named the game's theme as "resolve" on stage at its reveal, Cloud and his companions marching "toward the final battle", and his own resolve "to see the series through to its very end". Square Enix has already shown the Whirlwind Maze and the North Crater in the Tokyo Game Show demo (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Story), so the original's destination is kept. Rebirth ended with other worlds pressing against Cloud's, including one where Zack lives (Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth Story So Far), and Inven Global reports that Zack's playable segments were substantially increased. A trilogy that brought Zack back would not leave his story apart from Cloud's at the end.
What would prove us wrong: a final battle somewhere other than the North Crater, no Holy, or a finale without Zack and Cloud together.
Will Aerith be playable in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
We think Aerith is playable in Revelation for at least one full chapter or segment, through the remake's other worlds or the Lifestream, while the ending does not simply undo Rebirth's events at the Forgotten Capital.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: the Release Date trailer promises "the eight of us" (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Characters), and Square Enix's own image of the trilogy, the Collector's Edition statue, is Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Collector's Edition), the three figures of the "other worlds" thread. Aerith is credited in the English cast list from the New York Comic Con panel (Boss Rush Network, Oct 8, 2026). We think the team, which has added rather than cut at every turn, will not leave one of the eight on the bench for a whole game.
What would prove us wrong: Aerith appearing only in cutscenes, never under the player's control.
Which Weapons will be in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
We think Revelation has at least five Weapons as bosses: Ruby, Emerald, Ultima and Sapphire, which Square Enix has shown, plus Diamond, and that Ruby and Emerald are optional superbosses rather than story fights.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: In IGN's Gamescom demo Ruby Weapon already wanders the desert outside the Gold Saucer, where IGN's Michael Higham says it "gets me hyped for taking on the toughest battles", the behavior of an optional roaming boss. Square Enix's trailers have named Ruby, Emerald and Ultima and shown Sapphire (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Weapons). A Weapon also "made landfall outside Midgar" in The Planet's Crisis trailer.
Watching the Deep Dive, Maximilian Dood names the Weapon making landfall near Midgar as Diamond Weapon. Square Enix has not named it; we think he is right, which would make Diamond the fifth.
What would prove us wrong: fewer than five Weapon fights, or Ruby and Emerald fought only in the main story.
Will Cloud be missing from the party in Revelation?
We think Cloud is absent from the playable party for at least three chapters of Revelation, from the start through Chapter 4 or later, and rejoins at Mideel after a chapter led by Tifa.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: IGN's preview of Chapter 4 says Cloud and Tifa "aren't even in the party at this point for story reasons. If you know, you know." Kotaku read the reveal trailer as showing Tifa and Cid leading the party with Cloud absent for a stretch (Kotaku, Jun 7, 2026), and Mideel is a confirmed region (Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map). We think the remake keeps the original's arc here because it is about Cloud's identity, which the Tokyo Game Show demo already raises: there, Cloud tells Tifa he cannot remember his SOLDIER number (RPGFan, Sep 21, 2026).
What would prove us wrong: Cloud playable in every chapter, or Tifa with no chapter of her own.
Will Zack have a playable chapter in Gongaga?
We think one of Zack's playable segments in Revelation takes place in or around Gongaga.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Gongaga is a confirmed Revelation region, shown in the Deep Dive overrun by Malboros (Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map). Zack's playable time is expanded (Inven Global, Sep 10, 2026), and a cast member chose "Me, Gongaga" as a favorite line at New York Comic Con (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion). A region tied that closely to one character is where the game will put him.
What would prove us wrong: Zack playable only in places other than Gongaga.
What will the Sephiroth DLC be about?
We think Story DLC 1, "Sephiroth", is set before the original game, retells Ever Crisis's First Soldier story with Glenn Lodbrok, and makes young Sephiroth the playable character.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Jun 2028.
Why we think so: Ever Crisis's First Soldier story was the only telling of Sephiroth's youth, and it ended with the game on Oct 6, 2026 (Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis). Glenn Lodbrok from that story is already in Revelation, in Wutai (Wutai). Square Enix closed Ever Crisis a month after Revelation's reveal and named its first story DLC after Sephiroth (Square Enix, Sep 3, 2026): we read that as moving the story to the product it still sells.
What would prove us wrong: a Sephiroth DLC set after Revelation's ending, or one where Sephiroth is not playable.
What will the Vincent & the Turks DLC be about?
We think Story DLC 2, "Vincent & the Turks", is set years before the original, in Vincent's time as a Turk, with Lucrecia and Hojo, and is a new story rather than a remake of Dirge of Cerberus.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Jun 2028.
Why we think so: Vincent is introduced in Revelation as a "former Turk" (Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Revelation), and "the Turks" in the title points to the past, since Vincent is not a Turk in the main story. Hamaguchi says Revelation adds connections to Dirge of Cerberus and Before Crisis (Compilation of Final Fantasy VII), the two Compilation titles about Vincent's and the Turks' pasts. A full Dirge remake, a shooter set three years after the original, would not fit a pass sold with a game that ends the trilogy.
What would prove us wrong: a DLC set after Revelation, or one that adapts Dirge of Cerberus's main plot.
Will there be a Final Fantasy VII Revelation demo?
We think Square Enix releases a free public demo of Revelation on at least PS5 between Feb 2027 and launch.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Apr 2027.
Why we think so: Rebirth's free demo arrived on Feb 6, 2024, three weeks before launch. Revelation already has finished event demos, Chapter 4 at Gamescom and "The Party Assembles" at Tokyo Game Show (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Previews), so the work exists.
What would prove us wrong: no public demo on any platform before Apr 8, 2027.
Will Final Fantasy VII Revelation be a game-key card on Switch 2?
We think the physical Switch 2 edition is a game-key card that holds no game data, and that the Switch 2 version has no 60 frames per second mode.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Nintendo's Direct trailer confirmed the Switch 2 launch on Apr 8, with eShop pre-orders the same day. Hamaguchi expects the game to be "around 200GB", and every physical version needs a download beyond its two Blu-ray discs (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Platforms and File Size), a size no Switch 2 cartridge offers. Details are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Switch 2.
What would prove us wrong: a Switch 2 cartridge with the full game, or a 60fps mode on Switch 2.
Will Final Fantasy VII Revelation be Steam Deck Verified?
We think Revelation is rated Steam Deck Verified, not just Playable, by its Apr 8, 2027 launch.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Apr 2027.
Why we think so: Rebirth was Steam Deck Verified for its PC launch, and Hamaguchi asked fans to "just believe us" that Revelation runs well on low-spec hardware, with a separate optimization team (RPG Site, Oct 1, 2026). A game that must run on Switch 2 on day one is built for hardware in the Steam Deck's class.
What would prove us wrong: a Playable or Unsupported rating at launch, or no rating.
What will Final Fantasy VII Revelation score on Metacritic?
We expect a Metacritic score of 90 to 93 for the PS5 version.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Remake holds 87 on PS4 and Rebirth 92 on PS5 (Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth), and the previews praise the combat and Vincent while worrying about side-content clutter (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Previews), the same pattern as Rebirth's reviews. A finale has the advantage of payoff and the risk of an ending that divides people; we think the two cancel out near Rebirth's score.
What would prove us wrong: a PS5 Metascore of 89 or lower, or 94 or higher, a month after launch.
Will Square Enix announce Revelation's sales?
We think Square Enix announces a sales figure for Revelation (or a combined remake trilogy figure that includes it) within a month of launch, unlike Rebirth.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Square Enix announced Remake's 3.5 million in three days and gave no number for Rebirth, which it said fell short of expectations. Revelation launches on four platforms at once, after the first two games reached Switch 2 and Xbox and with a $84.99 Trilogy Edition (Final Fantasy VII Games in Order), so we think its launch will be one Square Enix wants to announce.
What would prove us wrong: no sales or player figure from Square Enix by May 8, 2027.
Will Final Fantasy VII Revelation be over 150 GB?
We think the final PS5 install size is over 150 GB.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Apr 2027.
Why we think so: Hamaguchi's own estimate is "around 200GB", and physical copies need a download on top of two discs (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Platforms and File Size). Final sizes usually shrink a little with compression, not by a quarter.
What would prove us wrong: a PS5 install size of 150 GB or less at launch.
What creators predict
Final Weapon on the Sephiroth DLC
In Final Weapon's Under the Plate podcast of Oct 8, 2026, one host predicts the Sephiroth DLC is "going to be focusing on that First Soldier stuff" (), and the other agrees it is "the logical place". We think they are right, and our own prediction above goes further, to a playable young Sephiroth.
Check by: Jun 2028.
Final Weapon on the length of each DLC
In the same episode, the hosts expect each story DLC to run "closer to that like 6 to 8 hour range", with Vincent's perhaps a little longer (). We think 6 to 8 hours is right for the Sephiroth DLC and slightly long for an episode built around one character, as INTERmission was.
Check by: Jun 2028.
Final Weapon on playable characters
Asked whether the DLCs will have several playable characters, one host says "I think it's going to be just one character", with Turks appearing but not playable (). We think so for the Sephiroth DLC, and that the Vincent DLC lets a second Turk join him in combat, as Sonon partnered Yuffie in INTERmission.
Check by: Jun 2028.
Genesis VII on when the DLCs are set
In his Oct 2, 2026 video, Genesis VII predicts the DLCs will "not be taking place after the events" of Revelation, pointing to the name "Vincent & the Turks" (). We agree; both our DLC predictions above rest on the same reading.
Check by: Jun 2028.
Genesis VII on the end of the remake series
In the same video he says he is "very confident that the ending of Revelation will be the ending of the remake series" (). We think he is right about the main story, since Hamaguchi calls Revelation "the conclusion of the series", but we expect the ending to leave a door open to Advent Children (Compilation of Final Fantasy VII).
Check by: May 2027.
Maximilian Dood on the summons
Watching the Sep 3, 2026 Deep Dive, Maximilian Dood predicts "they're going to put every freaking summon" in Revelation, pointing to Hades, the summon the original's players used against Ruby Weapon (). We think most of the original's summons appear, but not all: the final count will fall short of every one, because the FITS Summoner job brings in its own set of called entities (Final Fantasy VII Revelation FITS System).
Check by: May 2027.
Our take
We think Revelation will be judged on its last two hours more than any game in the series has been. The remake made its biggest bets on the ending of Rebirth and on the other worlds, and only Revelation can show whether those bets meant anything. We expect Square Enix to land the plane on familiar ground, the North Crater and Holy, and to spend its surprises on who stands there.
We think the open world is the safer half. Every preview praises the Highwind and the combat, and the complaint about notifications and clutter is the kind of thing a patch or an options menu fixes. The story cannot be patched.
In our view the DLC plan says more about Square Enix than the main game does. Both DLCs look backward, to stories that lived in closed or old games, and that is a sign the company wants the remake to be the definitive home of the whole Final Fantasy VII saga, not only of the 1997 game.
Frequently asked questions
Will Aerith come back in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
We think she will be playable for at least part of the game, through the remake's other worlds, but that the ending will not simply reverse Rebirth's events. Square Enix has not said.
How do we think Final Fantasy VII Revelation ends?
We think at the North Crater, with Holy cast against Meteor as in 1997, and with Zack and Cloud sharing a scene in the finale.
What do we think the Revelation DLCs will be?
Prequels: young Sephiroth's First Soldier story for DLC 1, and Vincent's years as a Turk for DLC 2, both due between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028.
Will there be a Final Fantasy VII Revelation demo?
We think a free demo arrives on PS5 before launch, as Rebirth's did three weeks before its release.
When will these predictions be checked?
Most in May 2027, a month after the Apr 8 launch, and the DLC predictions by Jun 2028, after the Story Expansion Pass window closes.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth Story So FarSpoiler warning. Final Fantasy VII Remake follows Avalanche's war on Shinra in Midgar and ends with Cloud's party breaking "destiny" by defeating the Whispers; Rebirth crosses the world after Sephiroth, adds Yuffie, Cid and Vincent, and ends with Aerith killed by Sephiroth at the Forgotten Capital while other worlds, including one where Zack lives, press against theirs. Revelation begins after that.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation WeaponsThe Weapons are colossal guardians the planet awakens against Meteor, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation makes them its signature fights. Some are optional endgame battles.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation World MapFinal Fantasy VII Revelation's world map is the whole planet as one seamless open world, flown by the Highwind airship with a parachute drop to any open spot. Square Enix has shown Wutai, the Mideel Archipelago, Rocket Town and the Northern Crater as new areas, and the Grasslands, Kalm, Junon, Gongaga, Costa del Sol and the Gold Saucer as returning ones, changed by Meteor and the Weapons.
