Final Fantasy VII Revelation Characters
Final Fantasy VII Revelation has a party of eight playable characters, with Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind playable for the first time in the remake series, alongside Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith; Zack gets more playable segments, and Aerith's role is not announced. Godo, Glenn Lodbrok, Cissnei, Chadley and his assistant MAI lead the supporting cast.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation's party has eight playable members: Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith from Rebirth, plus Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, who are playable for the first time in the remake series. "It's nothing the eight of us can't handle," Cloud says at the end of the Release Date trailer, and Sony's report from the Tokyo Game Show demo describes "a group totaling eight members" (PlayStation Blog, Sep 17, 2026). Square Enix has not said whether Aerith, killed at the end of Rebirth, is among them, and Zack Fair has "substantially more" playable segments (Inven Global, Sep 10, 2026). Vincent, Cid and Sephiroth each have a page of their own; the actors are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Voice Cast.

Who are the playable characters?
"At long last, with the world teetering on a blade's edge, everyone assembles at Cloud's side," says the Gameplay Introduction, an "epic ensemble of heroes, each with their own story". What each brings, as Square Enix and the previews have shown it:
| Character | Fights with | What is new in Revelation |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Strife | Buster Sword | Absent from the party for part of the story; the TGS demo questions his SOLDIER past |
| Tifa Lockhart | Gloves | New outfit in the reveal trailer; her slap fight with Scarlet is a minigame |
| Barret Wallace | Gun-arm | Fights for Marlene's sake against the Weapons |
| Red XIII (Nanaki) | Claws and fangs | Leads a new Queen's Blood story |
| Yuffie Kisaragi | Shuriken | Star of Chapter 4 in Wutai |
| Cait Sith | Megaphone and Moogle | His mask "gradually drops" |
| Vincent Valentine | Pistols, Galian Beast | Playable for the first time in the series |
| Cid Highwind | Lance | Playable for the first time; pilot of the Highwind |

Cloud, Tifa and Barret
Cloud is the lead, but he is not always in the party. In the Gamescom demo's Chapter 4, IGN's preview had "six different characters, each with their own play style, and Cloud and Tifa aren't even in the party at this point for story reasons". In the 1997 game, Cloud spends a stretch recovering at Mideel after the North Crater, and Tifa stays with him (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Story has the spoiler-labeled detail).
Barret's line in the Release Date trailer is about his daughter: "Fighting's earned me a lot of enemies. If a weapon endangers Marlene, best believe I'll fight you back." Final Fantasy Union's breakdown of the Jun 2026 trailers reads the menu footage as giving Cloud the Warrior FITS and Tifa the Black Mage; Square Enix has said only that each character has four.
Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith
Red XIII "becomes embroiled in a brand new Queen's Blood saga", the Deep Dive says, meeting "powerful opponents with unique abilities that turn the game on its head" (Queen's Blood in Final Fantasy VII Revelation). In the story he fights, in his own words, as "all the Watchers before me" did.
Yuffie, an optional party member in 1997, is "essentially the main character" of Chapter 4, IGN's Michael Higham found: a story of ninjas defecting and Shinra agents in her hometown. Her actor, Suzie Yeung, said at New York Comic Con that Yuffie's arc grows as Wutai has grown since 1997 (Boss Rush Network, Oct 8, 2026). Her home is on Wutai.
Cait Sith swears "on my honor as a cat" to fight "tooth and claw". In 1997 he was a remote-controlled spy for Shinra's Reeve; his actor Paul Tinto said at the same panel that by the final game the character's mask "gradually drops".
Vincent and Cid
The two newcomers get the most attention in every preview. Vincent is "a deft gunslinger" and former Turk who becomes the Galian Beast "at the press of a button", and Cid is "the cantankerous pilot extraordinaire" with a lance, the Gameplay Introduction says. Their full move lists, stories and synergies are on Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Cid Highwind in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. In IGN's Gamescom hands-on, Higham asked himself "Why would I ever swap them out of the party?"; Hamaguchi said in a Gamescom interview, shown in Curious Corduroy's Aug 28, 2026 video, that he worries players will gravitate to Vincent, and that he himself often takes Yuffie and Vincent.
Aerith and Zack
Aerith died at the Forgotten Capital in Rebirth, but her spirit still speaks to Cloud, and in the TGS demo she talks to him after the Jenova fight. Whether she fights again is the biggest open question about the cast. Square Enix's count of eight hints that she is not a permanent member: Rebirth's seven playable characters plus Vincent and Cid would make nine.
Zack Fair is confirmed. Hamaguchi said there are "substantially more segments where you play as Zack, and his prominence has grown" (Inven Global), he appears in the TGS demo's Nibelheim scenes, and he stands with Cloud and Sephiroth on the Collector's Edition statue (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Collector's Edition). His backstory is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Final Fantasy Union reports that Hamaguchi also promised other guest characters who join as playable, unnamed so far.
Who are the supporting characters?
In Wutai, IGN saw Godo, Yuffie's father and head of Wutai and the Kisaragi clan, meet Glenn Lodbrok, the hooded figure from Rebirth, and learned of Glenn's past leading an elite Wutai squad. In Rebirth Glenn turned out to be Sephiroth's puppet (Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth Story So Far).
Revelation "also includes stories and characters from titles within the Final Fantasy VII compilation", the Deep Dive says, "such as Cissnei", the Turk from Before Crisis and Crisis Core who appeared in Remake. More "familiar faces" are promised (Compilation of Final Fantasy VII).
Chadley returns with an assistant, MAI, who calls the party about optional activities. Previewers did not love her: IGN's Higham said MAI "would incessantly bang my line" the moment he landed in Wutai and kept talking during fights. Wize (Queen's Blood), Billy and the chocobo Piko also travel aboard the Highwind (Piko the Chocobo, Final Fantasy VII Revelation Highwind).
On the other side, Final Fantasy Union's breakdown of the second Jun 2026 trailer confirms Rufus and Hojo return as antagonists alongside Sephiroth (Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Revelation).
Can you switch characters?
Yes. "While you're out exploring, you can switch between any character at any time," the Deep Dive says, swapping to Yuffie on the Highwind, and Kotaku reports that cutscenes then play from the controlled character's view (Kotaku, Sep 3, 2026). Who you send on an odd job also changes it: the Deep Dive's Gongaga quest plays differently with Vincent (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Side Quests).
What did the cast say about the characters?
In TV Insider's Oct 13, 2026 interview at New York Comic Con, a cast member noted that "every character has their battle moments, every character has their comedy moments and every character has their vulnerable moments", a chance "to show what's behind the facade". J. Michael Tatum added that Cid, a support character in Rebirth, gets "some heavy moments" this time.
What we think
We think Aerith will be playable again for at least one chapter, as a guest the way Zack was in Rebirth, rather than as a ninth permanent member: the "eight members" wording leaves room for guests, and Hamaguchi's promise of guest characters (as Final Fantasy Union reports it) fits her and Zack best. We also think Vincent, not Cloud, becomes the character most players keep in their party, judging by how every preview from IGN to RPGFan picked him out. Both can be checked at launch on Apr 8, 2027; more on Predictions.
