Wutai
Wutai is Yuffie's homeland, the warrior nation that fought Shinra, and a new area in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, built as a large capital of tall vermilion buildings, cats and grappling points. In the press demo it hosts Yuffie's Chapter 4 quest, with her father Godo Kisaragi and Glenn Lodbrok, while tensions with Shinra are at a fever pitch.
Wutai is the remake trilogy's first full version of Yuffie's homeland, "the warrior nation of Wutai", and Final Fantasy VII Revelation's showcase new area: Square Enix flew the Highwind there and parachuted into its capital to open the exploration part of its Sep 3, 2026 Deep Dive. Square Enix describes it as home to descendants of ninja, "lined with beautiful architecture", and Game Informer called it "a fantastical take on feudal Japan". Everything below is from the official videos and the Gamescom 2026 press demo; the story of Yuffie's quest past its opening is not known, and this page does not guess at its ending.

What is Wutai like in Revelation?
Big, busy and vertical. The Deep Dive lands right in the capital's central square, then points out that there is plenty to do beyond fighting and minigames: the capital "is home to a large number of beloved cats", and the narrator stops to photograph one.
The same video says the area "has a unique aesthetic and culture that stands out from the rest of the world" and that its people take pride in it, before adding the line that frames the whole region: "tensions between Wutai and Shinra are at a fever pitch", though the threat of war has not dampened the people's spirits.
IGN's Michael Higham compared it to seeing Midgar in Remake or Cosmo Canyon in Rebirth: towering buildings of classic Japanese and Chinese architecture in a city that "seems more lively and lived in", a place that was small in the original and has been expanded the way the series has expanded every such town. CGMagazine found it dense with detailed buildings and much larger than in 1997.
Yuffie's quest in Chapter 4
The Gamescom demo started in Chapter 4, with Yuffie and the others heading to Wutai and Cloud and Tifa not in the party. Higham points out how much has changed since 1997, when Yuffie was an optional party member: here she is essentially the main character of the chapter. IGN's second preview names Yuffie, Barret, Nanaki (Red XIII), Cid and Vincent in the Chapter 4 party, and CGMagazine played Cait Sith there too.
Her motive is stated in the Release Date trailer: "It is I, the white rose of Wutai, Yuffie", who left her beloved homeland "to rid the world of the shadow of Sephiroth". Hamaguchi told Inven Global that players will relate to Yuffie's role "within the rivalry between Shinra and Wutai", and at the New York Comic Con panel on Oct 8, 2026 her arc in Wutai was described as expanded.
Higham found her a little too bubbly for the story around her: something sinister is brewing in Wutai, with ninjas defecting and Shinra agents operating in her hometown, and he had hoped she would take it more seriously. Game Informer's Wesley LeBlanc noted that Yuffie recommends going there because everyone listens to her.
We think Wutai is where Revelation tests whether its open world can carry a serious story: the demo put defecting ninjas, Shinra agents and a war on the edge of breaking out into one town, and the same chapter put the party's most cheerful member at the center of it.
Godo Kisaragi and Glenn Lodbrok
The demo shows Yuffie's father, Godo, head of Wutai and of the Kisaragi clan, meeting Glenn Lodbrok, the hooded man who turned up throughout Rebirth. You learn that Glenn's past was as a Wutai operative leading an elite squad. Game Informer adds a Viceroy to the scene and leaves the rest for players to find. Who the Viceroy serves has not been stated by Square Enix as of Nov 7, 2026.
The wider cast, with Godo and Glenn among them, is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Characters.
Getting around Wutai
You cannot parachute just anywhere here. IGN's second preview says Wutai was the exception to landing wherever you want, then calls the main town "gorgeous", full of tall buildings that suit the new grapple gun. The grapple only fires at points the interface highlights, but it made the dense town much faster to cross. IGN also entered a grapple gun race in which Yuffie had to prove her worth by reaching the town's highest point against the clock.
The Deep Dive shows the same tool from Yuffie's side: the grappling gun makes "even the highest rooftops just a few shots away", and the narrator climbs a building for a view over the capital. How flying and landing work everywhere else is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map.
Wutai in 1997 and in Revelation
From the 1997 game: Wutai was an optional stop tied to Yuffie, who was herself optional. IGN's Higham calls it a fairly small part of the original, and Kotaku's Lewis Parker wrote that in the original, Wutai is pointless without Yuffie; he hoped the original's secret scene in which Tifa recruits Yuffie would return.
| 1997 | Revelation (as shown) | |
|---|---|---|
| Required? | Optional | Chapter 4 heads there in the story; the story advanced only on reaching it in the demo |
| Yuffie | Optional party member | Lead of the chapter |
| Size | A small town (IGN) | A dense capital, "much larger" (CGMagazine) |
| Getting in | On foot from the world map | Highwind, parachute (with no-landing zones), grappling gun |
| Wutai and Shinra | A past war | Tensions "at a fever pitch" (Deep Dive) |
The comparison is ours, assembled from the sources above; Square Enix has not published one.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wutai in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Yes. Square Enix named it among the first details on Jun 7, 2026, and it is the main location of the Deep Dive and of the Gamescom 2026 press demo.
Is Wutai optional in Revelation?
Not by the demo's account. Chapter 4 sends the party to Wutai in the story, and CGMagazine found that the story only moved forward once they reached it. Whether parts of Wutai are optional has not been said.
Can you land the Highwind in Wutai?
You fly there on the Highwind and drop in, but IGN found that parts of the region do not allow a free parachute landing. The Deep Dive lands in the capital's central square.
Who are Godo and Glenn?
Godo Kisaragi is Yuffie's father and the head of Wutai and of the Kisaragi clan. Glenn Lodbrok is the hooded figure from Rebirth; the demo reveals he once led an elite Wutai squad.
Can you pet or photograph the cats?
You can photograph them: the Deep Dive snaps one of the capital's many cats. Nothing has been said about petting them.
