Final Fantasy VII Revelation Platforms and File Size
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on Apr 8, 2027 on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC), with no PS4 or Xbox One version. Director Naoki Hamaguchi expects the install to be "around 200GB", Switch 2 needs at least 130 GB, and every boxed copy needs a download.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation comes to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC, on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC, all on Apr 8, 2027. Hamaguchi announced it on stage at the reveal as "launching simultaneously on all platforms", the first time in the trilogy, since Remake and Rebirth each began on PlayStation alone. There is no PS4, Xbox One or original Switch version. The game will be large: Hamaguchi expects "around 200GB", Nintendo's store estimates 130.1 GB on Switch 2, and Square Enix says every boxed copy needs an internet connection to download more data. As of Nov 7, 2026, the PC requirements read "TBD".

What platforms is Final Fantasy VII Revelation on?
Four: PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. GameRiot's team, who played the Gamescom build in London, opens its preview on exactly that point, that "for the first time" the trilogy launches on all platforms, before noting that they played on PS5. How the trilogy reached each system before now:
| Game | First platform | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Remake | PS4, Apr 10, 2020 | PS5 (Intergrade) 2021, PC 2021 and 2022, Switch 2 and Xbox Jan 22, 2026 |
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | PS5, Feb 29, 2024 | PC Jan 23, 2025; Switch 2 and Xbox Jun 3, 2026 |
| Final Fantasy VII Revelation | All four, Apr 8, 2027 |
Sources: RPG Site (Remake Intergrade's ports); RPG Site, Feb 5, 2026 (Rebirth's). The waits shrank from almost six years to two years and three months, and now to none. We read that as Square Enix's multiplatform turn reaching its flagship: the ports of the first two games were, in effect, how it got the trilogy onto Xbox and Switch 2 in time for the finale. That is our interpretation, not Square Enix's statement.
Is Final Fantasy VII Revelation on Xbox?
Yes, on Xbox Series X|S from day one, boxed and digital, and on PC through Xbox on PC. Square Enix has not announced it for Game Pass as of Nov 7, 2026. Xbox owners who want to catch up have both earlier games on the same consoles since 2026, and the $84.99 Trilogy Edition is sold on Xbox too (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Editions and Price).
Is it on Switch 2?
Yes, on the same day, as Nintendo's Sep 9, 2026 Direct confirmed. The boxed Switch 2 version is a game-key card, which holds a license rather than the game, and the download needs at least 130 GB free. Everything about that version, including how Remake and Rebirth run on the console, is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Switch 2.
PC: requirements, stores and Steam Deck
As of Nov 7, 2026, Steam lists both minimum and recommended requirements as a 64-bit processor and operating system with "OS: TBD", and nothing else. The page lists single-player, Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Steam Cloud, HDR and Family Sharing, and says the game uses Denuvo Anti-tamper and a third-party EULA. Steam shows no Steam Deck rating yet. It lists 11 languages for the interface and subtitles: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean; its table appears to give full audio to English, French, German and Japanese, which Square Enix has not spelled out. Nintendo's Switch 2 page lists eight languages.
Our expectation, which nothing official supports yet, is that Square Enix publishes the PC requirements in the first quarter of 2027 with the same "around 200GB" storage figure on an SSD.
What the preview builds showed: IGN's Michael Higham, in footage Square Enix recorded, found flying the Highwind and dropping to any part of the map seamless "without visible loading", with some level-of-detail pop-in he did not mind given how detailed the ground is. That was not a PC build, and nobody has shown the PC version separately.
Will it run on weaker hardware?
Hamaguchi has asked players to trust the team. Told that fans doubt the game can work on low-spec hardware, he answered "Please, just believe us!" and explained that one team builds the game while "a team dedicated to optimizing everything" handles performance (RPG Site, Oct 1, 2026). He did not name the hardware; RPG Site presumed he meant the Steam Deck, Switch 2 and Xbox Series S. No frame rate, resolution or performance mode has been announced for any platform as of Nov 7, 2026, nor any PS5 Pro enhancement.
How big is Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Around 200GB, provisionally. Asked by VGC whether it would be bigger than the two Blu-ray discs the earlier games shipped on, Hamaguchi said "In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it's probably going to be around 200GB of game", and that the size comes from needing to "overcome the hardware to a certain extent" (RPG Site's report, Sep 18, 2026). At this point of IGN's second preview, the writer describes what all that data buys: free traversal over an entire world map, something RPGs usually save for their final hours, with Rebirth's regions and new ones in one connected world.
| Version | Size or space needed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Any (Hamaguchi's estimate) | "Around 200GB" | RPG Site, Sep 18, 2026 |
| Switch 2 | At least 130 GB free; 130.1 GB estimated | Square Enix Store; Nintendo, read Nov 7, 2026 |
| PS5, Xbox, PC | Not published |
GameRiot's preview gives the player's side of that size: every location felt "absolutely huge", even from the airship, getting from one point to another took time, and each zone has its own completion percentage.
We think the 200GB figure is for the PS5, Xbox and PC versions, since Switch 2 has an official 130 GB figure of its own, and that the final PS5 install lands between 150 and 200 GB. For storage planning, our rough math: the original 825 GB PS5 leaves about 667 GB for games, so 200 GB is nearly a third of it, and an Xbox Series S, with about 364 GB usable of its 512 GB, would give more than half its space to this one game. Clear the room before pre-loading.
Do physical copies need a download?
Yes, on every console. The Square Enix Store's terms say for PS5 and for Xbox that "An internet connection is required to download additional game data in order to play the physical version of the game", and on Switch 2 "The physical version will be distributed as a Game-Key Card", with the game downloaded on first launch. Square Enix has not said how many discs the PS5 and Xbox boxes hold. There is no boxed PC version.
Hamaguchi has said he argued for a full physical release, and VGC headlined his comments with "I did my best"; the decision sat with Square Enix's publishing side. In our view the box is now mostly a license with a disc or card attached, which matters for anyone who buys boxed copies to keep the game playable without servers: here a download is required either way.
Square Enix's own pitch shows why the data does not fit: you pilot the Highwind anywhere and "descend seamlessly from the sky above to the ground below", with no loading break between the air and the ground. The world map is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map.
