Final Fantasy VII Revelation DLC

Final Fantasy VII Revelation has two paid story DLCs, Story DLC 1 "Sephiroth" and Story DLC 2 "Vincent & the Turks", planned between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028 and sold together as the Story Expansion Pass, which is included in the Premium, Premium Plus and Collector's Editions. Their stories, prices and dates are not announced as of Nov 7, 2026.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will get two story expansions after launch: Story DLC 1, "Sephiroth", and Story DLC 2, "Vincent & the Turks", planned between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028. They come together in the Story Expansion Pass, which is part of the Premium ($99.99), Premium Plus ($109.99) and Collector's ($349.99) Editions and will also be sold alone at launch; each DLC will be sold separately once it is out. The two names fit the line Vincent says in Square Enix's gameplay introduction at this moment: "I won't return to my coffin until we've put Sephiroth in his." As of Nov 7, 2026, Square Enix has not said what either story is about, when each arrives within the window, whether Sephiroth is playable, or what the pass costs on its own.

What is the Story Expansion Pass?

The pass is Revelation's season pass. On Steam it lists three things: "Accessory: Reclaimant Choker & Survival Set", available at launch, then Story DLC 1 "Sephiroth" and Story DLC 2 "Vincent & the Turks", both "planned for release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028". Square Enix's release adds that the pass is sold separately at launch and that both DLCs will be sold individually after release. Steam also notes that the story DLCs are not covered by the Premium editions' 24-hour early access, which is plain enough: they do not exist yet on Apr 7, 2027.

How to get the DLC Price Notes
Premium Edition (digital) $99.99 Game, pass, early access
Premium Plus Edition (digital) $109.99 Premium plus artbook, soundtrack and three items
Collector's Edition (physical) $349.99 Pass included; Square Enix Store only
Story Expansion Pass alone Not announced Sold separately at launch
Each story DLC alone Not announced After each DLC's release

Every edition is compared on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Editions and Price. The Premium Edition costs $30 more than the Standard Edition and adds the pass, a day of early access and two items, which puts a ceiling on what we expect the pass to cost alone: at most $30, and probably a little under it.

When does the Revelation DLC come out?

Between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, in Square Enix's words, which it calls subject to change. Neither DLC has its own date. Since Revelation comes out in April 2027, "Winter 2027" can only mean the winter that begins in December 2027. The official text gives one window for both, not one season each.

We expect Story DLC 1 in December 2027 or January 2028, about nine months after launch, and Story DLC 2 between March and May 2028. Our reasoning: the two are numbered in that order, and the window, from the start of one winter to the end of the following spring, spans about six months, room for one at each end. We will check this when Square Enix dates the first DLC.

Why is there DLC at all?

Because players asked. Hamaguchi wrote on X on Sep 3, 2026 that the team "received many requests from fans and media for DLC, and decided to make it happen", and that it wanted to share the plan before the main game came out rather than after (Insider Gaming, Sep 3, 2026). Rebirth had no story DLC; Remake's PS5 version, Intergrade, added INTERmission, Yuffie's episode in Midgar. Revelation is the first part of the trilogy to announce paid story content before release.

The Sephiroth DLC

The first expansion is named after the series' villain, who in Revelation is "nearing godhood", in Square Enix's words, and who speaks to Cloud at this point of the reveal trailer: "Let us put your faith to the test, Cloud." What the expansion contains is not known. Asked in an interview with VGC whether the stories take place in the past or the present, Hamaguchi said "I'm not going to tell you that now", and he compared both expansions to INTERmission, describing them as "digging deeper into the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth" (GamingBolt, Sep 18, 2026).

Sephiroth also has a new voice for the finale: Travis Willingham replaced Tyler Hoechlin in Revelation, and at New York Comic Con the cast quoted his trailer line and welcomed him to the group in their TV Insider interview, at this point. Whether he voices the DLC as well has not been said; we expect he does. His role in the main game is on Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

We think the "Sephiroth" story is set in the past, around his years in SOLDIER and the Nibelheim incident, told from his side. Our reasoning: Hamaguchi chose the INTERmission comparison, a side story about a character rather than a sequel, and called it "digging deeper" into the character; a story about Sephiroth set after the finale would fight the trilogy's ending, which Square Enix presents as the conclusion. We also think it is the first time Sephiroth is fully playable in the trilogy beyond short sections. Both are our predictions, to be checked when the DLC is detailed.

The Vincent & the Turks DLC

The second expansion pairs the party's new gunslinger with the organization he came from. Square Enix's introduction describes Vincent as a "secretive former Turk" and the result of Shinra's experiments, who can turn into the Galian Beast at the press of a button. The Turks are Shinra's agents, met throughout Remake and Rebirth. A DLC about both suggests a story about Vincent's past with them, or a present-day story in which they cross paths; Square Enix has said neither.

Matt Mercer, who voices Vincent, introduced him at Summer Game Fest at this point as the party's "newest coffin dwelling companion", playable for the first time in the trilogy. In battle, IGN's second previewer called him probably his favorite character to fight as in the series. His kit and story are on Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

One clue sits in the main game. The Deep Dive says Revelation brings in characters and stories from the wider Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and introduces Cissnei here, a Turk from Before Crisis and Crisis Core. The Compilation's own Vincent story, Dirge of Cerberus, centered on him and Deepground, a hidden army inside Shinra; Hamaguchi would not confirm whether Deepground appears (Inven Global, Sep 10, 2026). See Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

We think "Vincent & the Turks" is set in the past, in Vincent's own years as a Turk, and that it introduces Lucrecia, the scientist at the center of his backstory, if she does not appear in the main game first. We would put Deepground's appearance in it at less than even odds, since Hamaguchi declined to confirm it for the main game. Our predictions, all of them; more are on Predictions.

What creators predict

Final Weapon, the Final Fantasy news site, gave the DLC a whole episode of its Under the Plate show on Oct 8, 2026. Its host expects both expansions to lean on flashbacks, and says that "if I were to bet money", the Sephiroth DLC will adapt the young Sephiroth story from Ever Crisis's First Soldier chapters "in a full game format", which he calls some of the best material to come out of that game. That is his prediction, not an announcement. We agree with the direction: a story of Sephiroth in SOLDIER, before Nibelheim, fits both that reading and Hamaguchi's INTERmission comparison. That story's source game is on Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis.

On the second expansion, the same episode reads the title as "very clearly" meaning Vincent's time with the Turks in the past, and expects material from Dirge of Cerberus, the Compilation game built around Vincent, to be adapted. In our view "clearly" is too strong: the Turks are also active in the present of Remake and Rebirth, and Square Enix has said nothing about when the story is set. We still think the past is the likelier setting, as we say above.

What is not known yet

As of Nov 7, 2026, Square Enix has not announced:

  • the price of the Story Expansion Pass or of each DLC alone;
  • a date for either DLC within the Winter 2027 to Spring 2028 window;
  • where or when either story takes place, and whether it changes anything in the ending;
  • who is playable in each, and how long they are;
  • whether each needs the main game finished first.

What is known of the main story is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Story.

The digital Premium ($99.99) and Premium Plus ($109.99) Editions and the boxed Collector's Edition ($349.99). The Standard, Deluxe and Trilogy Editions do not.

Not announced as of Nov 7, 2026. It is sold separately from launch day.

No. Steam says the story DLCs are not covered by early access; they come out months after launch.
