The Release Date Reveal Trailer, in which each party member gives a reason to fight (Yuffie, "the white rose of Wutai", left her homeland to rid the world of Sephiroth), came with that date, and it is the same on the PlayStation Blog, on Steam and on Nintendo's store. No region has a later date in any official text we found: there is no separate Japanese or European day.

Our reading, which Square Enix has not confirmed: on Steam the Standard Edition unlocks at one moment worldwide, Apr 8 at 14:00 UTC, exactly 24 hours after early access begins, since the bonus deadline closes one minute before it. The PlayStation Store's two entries both fall on local midnight, Eastern time in the US store and British time in the UK store, which fits a launch that rolls out by region at midnight. Neither store's hour has been confirmed by Square Enix as the launch time, and both can change. The launch clock on this viki counts to midnight UTC on Apr 8 for that reason alone: it marks the date, not a predicted hour.

We expect Square Enix, or each platform holder, to publish exact unlock times and the pre-load date in the final weeks before launch, as is usual for a game of this size. Pre-loading matters more than usual here: the install is expected to be around 200GB, and even boxed copies need a download.

How does early access work?

1:40 The digital Premium Edition ($99.99) and Premium Plus Edition ($109.99) let you start 24 hours before release, on Apr 7, 2027. Steam's page gives the moment as 14:00 UTC. It is the finished game, not a test: the whole party of eight that the trailer's last line counts is there a day early. Three things are left out on Steam: Story DLC 1 and Story DLC 2, which come out between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, and the Premium Plus digital artbook and mini soundtrack.
