Queen's Blood in Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Queen's Blood, Rebirth's card game, returns in Final Fantasy VII Revelation with a new story saga led by Red XIII (Nanaki) instead of Cloud, opponents whose abilities change the rules mid-match, and a new trump card mechanic. Wize runs it from the Highwind, where you edit your deck.
Queen's Blood is back in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and this time its story belongs to Red XIII: the Sep 3, 2026 Deep Dive says he "becomes embroiled in a brand new Queen's Blood saga" and meets powerful opponents "with unique abilities that turn the game on its head". Director Naoki Hamaguchi had already said on Jun 7, 2026 that "the protagonist is actually Nanaki, so it's not going to be Cloud this time". The card list, the number of opponents and the saga's ending are not known as of Nov 7, 2026.

How does Queen's Blood play?
As it did in Rebirth. The Deep Dive describes it as "a strategic card game in which two players vie for control of the board to see who can earn the most points", where the course of a match "can change drastically depending on card placement and abilities", easy to pick up with real depth for those who dig in. Hamaguchi told Game Informer in June that the rules would see "some arrangements" as the team balances and scales them, and that he is "pretty confident" the result is better than Rebirth's.
What is new in Revelation's Queen's Blood?
Three things have been shown or described:
- A new lead. Nanaki, not Cloud, is the protagonist of the card game's story. Game Informer traces the idea to a scene in Rebirth in which Red XIII dances on a boat and then plays Queen's Blood. Kotaku describes it as an extended story questline revolving around Red XIII.
- Rule-changing opponents. The PlayStation Blog says the new campaign adds opponents who can "dramatically alter the flow of matches". Game Informer's Eric Van Allen, who spent most of the Gamescom demo at the Gold Saucer, found opponents more likely to have game-breaking advantages.
- Trump cards. Van Allen describes a new trump card mechanic that gives you a guaranteed starter card for your deck. Exactly how a trump card is drawn or played has not been explained.
We think the guaranteed starter card is the most important rule change of the three. In Rebirth, a match could turn on a bad opening hand; a card you are sure to see makes a deck built around one strong card a real strategy, and we expect the hardest opponents of the saga to be balanced against exactly that.
Where do you play it?
On the Highwind and across the world. Game Informer reports that Wize runs Queen's Blood aboard the Highwind, where you edit your decks, and that he asks you to visit Regina, who is back in Gongaga. Opponents also roam the world, so a match can start wherever you land. The airship and its crew are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Highwind.
You can also put the card game first. Reading Hamaguchi's interview with RPG Site, Curious Corduroy relays that while there is no filter to hide all but one kind of map icon, an option lets you prioritize content such as the Queen's Blood side quest so that it stands out on the Highwind's map. How the rest of the map works is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map.
Why Red XIII?
Square Enix has not explained the choice beyond the boat scene. Red XIII's line in the Release Date trailer, "I want to keep everyone safe from harm. It's my duty, like all the Watchers before me", shows the role he plays in the main story.
Curious Corduroy offers a theory (his own reading, not Square Enix's). Spoiler from the 1997 game: in the original, Red XIII's grandfather Bugenhagen dies late in the story, and Corduroy suggests the saga could be how Red XIII finds his reason to keep fighting, leaving Cosmo Canyon to grow through what he learns and the people he meets over cards. Our view: it fits Hamaguchi's statement that Revelation's side stories are about each character's reason to fight (see Final Fantasy VII Revelation Side Quests), and we think the saga's final match will be tied to Cosmo Canyon.
Will Queen's Blood be required?
Not as far as anyone has said. IGN's Michael Higham notes that much of the side content is optional and that he expects to lose "entire days to Queen's Blood and its new storyline" anyway, but hopes Square Enix learned from Rebirth that such content should not be wedged into the main quest line. Game Informer's June report says minigames get difficulty settings and can be skipped, and that most of their rewards will no longer be combat items, so skipping should not leave your party weaker. Whether the skip covers story matches of Queen's Blood itself has not been stated.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation FITS SystemFITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) is Final Fantasy VII Revelation's job system: four outfits per character, Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner, each giving a new moveset and role, chosen on the Highwind. A character without one is a Freelancer, and the outfits change how a character fights, not, by early accounts, their stats.
