Final Fantasy VII Revelation Developers
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is developed and published by Square Enix, directed by Naoki Hamaguchi, produced by Yoshinori Kitase, with Tetsuya Nomura as creative director and Teruki Endo leading combat. Yoshitaka Amano drew the logo, and Nomura and Roberto Ferrari designed the characters.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is made and published by Square Enix, led by director Naoki Hamaguchi, producer Yoshinori Kitase and creative director Tetsuya Nomura, the same three who took the remake series from Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) through Rebirth (2024). On stage at Summer Game Fest on Jun 5, 2026, Hamaguchi named the game's central theme as "resolve," for the characters and for himself: "the resolve to see the series through to its very end." This page covers who the team is, what each of them has said about Revelation, and what their statements tell us. The game itself is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Who is making Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Square Enix develops and publishes Revelation itself, as it did Remake and Rebirth; its Steam page lists Square Enix in both roles. The key staff come from the earlier two games, and each has a defined job:
| Person | Role on Revelation | Earlier in the remake series |
|---|---|---|
| Naoki Hamaguchi | Director | Directed Rebirth; named director of the second part in 2021, after Remake |
| Yoshinori Kitase | Producer | Says he has worked on Final Fantasy VII for thirty years |
| Tetsuya Nomura | Creative director, character design | Directed Remake; stayed creative director across the Final Fantasy VII projects |
| Teruki Endo | Combat (battle) director | Spoke for Rebirth's combat in Anime News Network's 2024 interview |
| Roberto Ferrari | Character design | Credited with Nomura in the Sep 3, 2026 release |
| Yoshitaka Amano | Logo illustration | Credited for the logo in the Sep 3, 2026 release |
Vi.ki assembled the table from Square Enix's Sep 3, 2026 credits and the interviews linked on this page. No composer had been named in the materials we read as of Nov 7, 2026.
Naoki Hamaguchi, director
Hamaguchi announced Revelation himself, walking on stage after the reveal trailer at Summer Game Fest to "I'm back" and the news that it was "launching simultaneously on all platforms." That is the decision most tied to him: Remake and Rebirth both launched on PlayStation first and reached other platforms years later, while Revelation arrives on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC on the same day (Final Fantasy VII Revelation Platforms and File Size). His written statement that day said he was "beyond excited to announce" the game and that it is "centered around "resolve"".
Since then he has given interviews to almost every outlet that played the demos. To IGN he explained how the team handled places players already saw in Rebirth: the approaching Meteor "has caused seismic shifts in familiar places, leading to geographical differences," and all the side quests in those areas are new. The world itself is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation World Map.
His most quoted design answer is the parachute. In the original, he told IGN, the Highwind could land anywhere on the world map, which "wasn't really a legitimate option" in a high-fidelity open world, so the team looked at "other games, specifically like Fortnite," where modern players were used to "characters flying down the air using parachutes." How it plays is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Highwind.
To Game Informer he described how the open world opens up: not every door at once, but hints and options that grow, so "it becomes freer and freer as you go". To RPG Site on Oct 1, 2026, he answered fans who doubted the game would run on weaker hardware: the team has "separate teams dedicated to focusing on the gameplay and a team dedicated to optimizing everything", and "Please, just believe us!"
GameSpot's Oct 5, 2026 interview carries the title "Naoki Hamaguchi has Played Through Final Fantasy Revelation 46 Times?!". Vi.ki could not read that interview's transcript, and one other report gives 40, so we treat 46 as GameSpot's figure, not a confirmed one.
Yoshinori Kitase, producer
Kitase's Jun 5 statement is the most personal of the three: the story's final destination "represents my emotions spanning thirty years working on this title", and he wrote that players, not developers alone, turn the final page. With Hamaguchi he told Inven Global that the team never planned to condense the original story, only to include all of it and expand it, and he credited "the development team" for the effort (Inven Global, Sep 10, 2026). In that interview Hamaguchi added that Rocket Town's timing was moved to Revelation, that Zack has "substantially more segments where you play as Zack," and that whether Deepground and the Tsviets from Dirge of Cerberus return is "hard to confirm or deny." The story questions are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Story and the spin-offs on Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.
Tetsuya Nomura, creative director
Nomura directed Remake and handed the second part to Hamaguchi in 2021 while staying creative director across the Final Fantasy VII projects. On Revelation he is creative director and, with Roberto Ferrari, character designer. His Jun 5 statement speaks to the series' spin-offs: the creators "carefully built and nurtured the Final Fantasy VII series over many years," and the aim is to bring those stories together in the final chapter, while he acknowledged fans may feel uncertainty as well as excitement (RPG Site, Jun 5, 2026). Hamaguchi told Anime News Network at Tokyo Game Show that ties to Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus were added (Anime News Network, Sep 2026).
Teruki Endo, combat director
Endo leads the battle system. He told IGN he "felt the team perfected the combat in the second entry, so the third was all about polish and increasing player freedom," and IGN's writer found the combat "very similar to Rebirth," with the new freedom coming through FITS, the outfit system that assigns one of four classes to each party member. Hamaguchi told Inven that FITS was worked out with "Battle Director Endo," and that the team limited it to four per character so each stays distinct, since with seven main characters every addition is costly. The systems are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Combat and Final Fantasy VII Revelation FITS System.
The writers and the English cast
Square Enix has not published a full writing credit for Revelation as of Nov 7, 2026. At New York Comic Con, Paul Tinto, the English voice of Cait Sith, gave one glimpse of the English script's makers: he credited "Ryan and Matt, the two writers," with working to find specific Scottish phrases for Cait Sith, and said they welcomed his suggestions and alternate takes. We do not name them further, since no credit we could find gives their full names.
In the same TV Insider interview, Matt Mercer, the voice of Vincent, described the remake series as "the culmination of the old school games that inspired so many people" to make games, and as an example of how to do a project on this scale "correctly." The full cast is on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Voice Cast.
Physical release and file size
The size of the game is a team decision with a public trail. Hamaguchi told Video Games Chronicle the total is still being worked out but will likely be about 200GB, larger than the two Blu-ray discs of earlier entries, so all physical copies need an extra download. VGC also reported that he argued for a physical version, headlined with his "I did my best." Storage needs and formats are on Final Fantasy VII Revelation Platforms and File Size.

|---|---|---|---|
| Jun 5, 2026 | Hamaguchi | Summer Game Fest stage | Simultaneous launch; theme is "resolve" |

| Sep 10, 2026 | Kitase, Hamaguchi | Inven Global | Story expanded, not condensed; more Zack; Rocket Town moved; four FITS per character |
| Sep 10, 2026 | Hamaguchi | Game Informer | About 35 hours on the golden path, 100 or more for completionists; world "freer and freer" |
| Sep 18, 2026 | Hamaguchi, Endo | IGN | Fortnite inspired the parachute; Meteor reshaped old regions; combat is about polish |
| Sep 18, 2026 | Hamaguchi | Video Games Chronicle | About 200GB; physical copies need a download |

| Oct 5, 2026 | Hamaguchi | GameSpot | Interview titled with his 46 playthroughs |
IGN's Michael Higham closed his Gamescom preview hoping Revelation "doesn't lose sight of why we were drawn to Final Fantasy VII to begin with," something he says Hamaguchi "has stressed" so far, and the date the team is working to: Apr 8, 2027.
What we think
We think this is the steadiest leadership any Final Fantasy has had across a multi-game project: the same director, producer, creative director and combat director as Rebirth, with Hamaguchi in charge of the last two games. That continuity is why we expect Revelation's combat to land well at launch; Endo's "polish" framing and the near-identical feel previewers describe both point there. We think the team's real risk is the one its own statements keep returning to, scale: 200GB, a whole planet, 100-plus hours, and a director who says he played it through dozens of times. Hamaguchi's appeal to "just believe us" on low-spec hardware will be tested on Switch 2 and Xbox Series S on day one, and we expect at least one of those versions to need a patch in its first month. Our wider calls are on Predictions.
